1. Hear my words, for truth is acceptable
And see the proof of my longing appear evident

2. For I have sorrows among sorrows not known
Before me by one whose heart is afflicted by separation

3. It is I whom the causes of his desolation have united
And I have no cause for intimacy to be connected

4. And passion has torn apart my innards so I have a liver
Whose agonized bleating echoes in the lengths of distance

5. My patience used to give me victory before your separation
And today my patience has become defeated and abandoned

6. O stranger whom the pilgrimage grounds have been generous to
So tales and intentions regarding it have consequences

7. He has become mad with longing for his loved ones so he became
As if he were the insane Bilal in the land

8. Wandering on the earth not knowing whether his abode
Is in the wilderness or where the tribe's quarters are populated

9. Perplexed, he strayed in the desolation of grief, so perhaps
A guide from nearness, for distance is misguidance

10. Thirsty asking about a meadow from which to attain
Quenching the thirst, though tears flow in his eyelids

11. Alas no water of tears will quench him raised up
For it is into the heat of fire he is carried

12. Oh, the agony! He has not ceased being in the depths
Since he was exiled from the plain of welcome

13. May God suffice him - he does not complain to anyone
For what the Merciful has willed is accomplished

14. The state denied when the days changed upon
The marks of intimacy, so the known is unknown

15. He sees the day like the night in anguish
As if there is no moving of the hours

16. For the people, from their days, fulfillment of their appointment
And His promise in the arrangement of reunion is postponed

17. Were it not for the hopes that have kept him alive
He would not live a day, though living is procrastination

18. And in the greeting his life, when it comes
From his absent master, the trusted, hoped for

19. It delighted him, so it perfumed him
With its goodness - gifted musk and twisted

20. How excellent it is when dedicated to me and
Its bestowal above what I hoped for given

21. The Supreme Master is generous to me with its scent
Generosity in honoring it the winds bear

22. So His abundance meets His owned favor
With what His righteousness and reverence require for it

23. And it comes to me with it, nobility
As if for the white hands represented

24. Its emergence appears on the watched horizon
And what favor of the sky it entails

25. When I glimpsed its radiance, it dazzles me
For it is only magnifying and praising

26. From it, three, Allah, I was fortunate with
As if for good fortune the flowers compose it

27. I met it, the aspirations of my dreams, and for it
By rule of passion, a kiss and embrace

28. And I stood to unsheathe a sword from its glories
With it a crown and diadem on my head

29. It gave prestige to the soul when you gave prestige, so for it
After your care there is no humiliation and confusion

30. My master, through you is my pride among the people and not
Through other than your glory is supremacy established

31. You are the pillar continually elevated
Whereby for the star in its orbit rest

32. You are the foremost in every virtue when
Apart from you they are preceded and surpassed

33. You are the one who by the right hand of religion when
The truth is supported, the argument flows

34. You are the one who brought together diverse sciences for it
Until declared and derived were integrated

35. Rather, the path of the matter was clarified
In judgment a text and interpretation produce it

36. For you is purity and intimacy of water its image
When its purity in containers of glass is made

37. O singular one of time, say to Him not contended
Denial of its proof is incapacity and obstruction

38. For you is eloquence, you have argued its proof
Until confined and inferred became clear

39. For you is the perfection whose descriptions testified
That for the existence of pride it is complete

40. The house is noble and the soul is virtuous
And manner noble and honor polished

41. Blessed is Allah, how excellent and noble is what
He favored you with of ennoblement and preference

42. Above high you were created and it necessitates
That I am in love with you, by Allah ingrained

43. I have none but you from the world and its inhabitants
A request, nor hope I want asked

44. I wish I knew will I enjoy your nearness
And can what passed the day of separation be regained

45. My support, my supplies, my provisions, my esteem
Do you see the legends draw near and the ships

46. Can there be in meeting barriers my hopes
In it by time change and alternation

47. Not finer was my era in your covenants
Had my connection with you not been severed

48. By Allah I've not forgotten our times of intimacy
Where the does played and for the branches a shaking

49. Where every delight pleased and the days of wine tasted sweet
And where Ibn Asssam, dew, and meadow were home

50. Where a generation of the elite resided
Watering and shepherding those meadows, so for me

51. A heart by them enthralled and occupied
There your perfection was complete to my sight

52. Though now by the plains it is obscured
O you who own my soul, who corrects it

53. In a knot of affection for him decreed and registered
This is the discourse of my longing and it is brief

54. And perhaps it is said the words are prolonged
Take it from me, the narration precise, connected

55. For in discourse there is interrupted and flawed
Then take from my greetings a fragrant response

56. Flowing to you, and the open spaces of the plateau stretched wide
