1. My solace is in God, how right He is!
Yahya bin Sulaim has passed away

2. And glory has been afflicted with his loss
In the heart of glorious glory lies the sorrow

3. Oh what great calamity has befallen
Patience has been manifested in this supreme ordeal

4. Reason had no meaning
In the presence of the wise and forbearing

5. Thought was robbed by sadness
That brought grievous news

6. He outlined death's features
So let's stop at its portrayal

7. And let's wipe the tears away
From clouds upon clouds of sorrow

8. For crying relieves a heart
Full of anguish and pain

9. Yaqoob grits his teeth in grief
For my brother bearing heavy sorrow

10. And following the example of the generous
There is no other guide but the generous guide

11. My soul yearns for the departed one
Matchless in his absence

12. Seized by the claw of fate
The grip of avenging injustice

13. His light set in the horizon of stars
And he threw himself into the sparkling

14. Below the canopies of ends
So the flowers' faces paled

15. After that beautiful visage
And the eyes of pride weep

16. The foolishness of time
That an eyelid would close

17. And a mean ignoble one would be gone
In a youth who did not enjoy

18. The pleasures of permanence
He was but a blink of an eye

19. And a piercing lightening flash
So God covered him with the shroud

20. Of the outstretched parchment
And chose him with honor

21. The intimate brotherly bond torn
And invited him to the Merciful

22. The Mercy of the Merciful Lord
So he advanced quickly

23. Between softness and breeze
And he passed away so generously

24. No blemish to his name
Does he perhaps miss

25. A home of bliss?
So he visits seeking righteousness

26. The best of all tents
He came longing but

27. Just a fleeting visit of lasting love
He did not stop by

28. An infant still breastfeeding
He became for the eternal world

29. One called orphan
He submitted to the command and turned away

30. With a pure untainted heart
So God quenched his burial place

31. With ample pouring rain
And clothed him where fabrics wear out

32. The thin fragile bones
With a radiance that makes

33. The broken one well again
And gave patience to a people

34. Whose night is like the dark one
And a day they never saw

35. As grim as the beastly night
They were specifically distraught

36. And we were distressed in general
For my life none can be distinguished

37. From an equal compatriot
We have all shared

38. The agony of great calamity
You see none but a sympathizer

39. To melancholy and gloom
Whether near or far

40. Burdened heavily with worries
My absence has doubled the grief

41. From presence and obligation
And I complain about my separation

42. To the one I love
How can I guide to a path

43. Of glory straight and just
When true passion shows

44. Weak faltering patience
From a consoler for my friend

45. With wisdom in his words
Nothing but what he possesses

46. Of calm composed advice
Knowing the days though

47. People remain ignorant
O Abu Bakr the most virtuous

48. O brother of vast sublime merit
Uphold intention with patience

49. Blessed is honesty of purpose
If Yahya cries he lost a son

50. A loss not recent at all
Sorrow renewed so it recalled

51. The forgotten pain
For the son of his brother

52. The cruel days' misdeed
Distracted, grieving for him

53. With a wailing like beasts
So guide him to patience

54. To heed the leader's command
For it befits steadfast cheeks

55. To tighten their reins
And acceptance that emanates

56. A fragrant soul in adversity
So rise above the poison

57. Of passion with the scent of breeze
And present a director

58. A cup of continual comfort
And send the finest prayers

59. For one pleased in isolation
And submit to every calamity
