لعمرك إنني لأحب دارا

وكن بشا كريما ذا انبساط

ولم يمرر به يوم فظيع

No day passed more dire for him than the day of trial,

تبارك ذو العلا والكبرياء

Blessed is He of might and glory

يا نكبات الدهر دولي دولي

O calamities of fate, come and go,

لئن كانت الدنيا تعد نفيسة

فعقبى كل شيء نحن فيه

The end of everything we are in

إذا استنصر المرء امرءا لا يدي له

When a man seeks help from one with no power to aid

تعالج بالتطبب كل داء

You treat every illness with medicine

لمن يا أيها المغرور تحوي

For whom, O deluded one, do you hoard

عليك بظلف نفسك عن هواها

Deny your soul its passions and desires

ما يحفظ الله يصن

What Allah preserves is protected

عظيم هوله والناس فيه

Its terror is great, and people in it

عجبت لذي التجارب كيف يسهو
