إلى الله في كشف المهمات نرغب

To God for relief from afflictions we yearn

ألا يا راكباً قف لي فواقا

Oh you who ride, stop for me a while

بعزك يا ذا الكبرياء والمراحم

I implore you, O You of great pride and mercy

يا راكباً من رياض المجد مرتحلا

O rider traveling from the gardens of glory

أعلى المنازل إذ عفت أعلامها

The highest abodes, when their banners have withered away,

تذكرت والذكرى تهيج البواكيا

I remembered, and memory stirs grief,

لك الحمد اللهم يا ذا الحامد

You alone deserve praise, O God, O You for Whom there is praise

بحمد ولي الحمد مسدي الفضائل

With praise to the Master of praise, bestower of virtues,

أثابك مولاك المهابة والرضى

May your Lord grant you reverence and contentment

يا تاركاً لمراضي الله أوطاناً

O you who have forsaken the ways pleasing to God, and homelands,

معالي الأمور الساميات المعالم

The sublime affairs, the lofty principles

ألا مال نيران الأسى تتضرم

Alas, the fires of sorrow kindle,

قلب المحب من الهجران مكلوم

The lover's heart is pained by separation,

علام التراخي في الأمور النوائب

Why such delay in matters, events turn awry,

تعلم ففي العلم الشريف فوائد

Learn, for in learning is noble virtue

أرى كل ما قد قدر الله يكتب

I see all that Allah has decreed to be written

بحمد الله نبدأ في المقال

In the name of God, we begin this essay

على دارس الأطلال بالمتحلب

The one roaming the ruins with his cloak,

تأجج الوجد في الأحشا واضطربا

Longing blazed in my inner self and was disturbed

وقول أبي العباس أحمد أنها

The words of Abu al-Abbas Ahmad that it

سبحان من كون الأشياء تكوينا

Glorious is He who created all things with such perfection

فإن كان عن ذنب جناه محبكم

If it was for a sin he committed,

ألا أيها الغادي مجداً بنجداً

على الدين فليبكي ذوو العلم والهدى

دع للعبرات تنسجم انسجاما

أمور القضا ليست بحكم العوالم

إن القريض إن أرسلت قد وصلا

أضرب السحر الذي أنت ناظمه

ما عقد در على جيد بغيداء

أتعرف نظماً فيك منى مسراً

لقد كسفت شمس العلا والمفاخر
