1. The lover's heart is pained by separation,
And his tears are shed for parting from companions.

2. His patience is weak, so his limbs are disabled,
As if he is delirious from the intensity of estrangement.

3. He complains of distance, and none can cure him
Except the beloved, who calms the boiling worries,

4. She excites the yearning one when she turns away,
As if she is a planet wandering in the sky.

5. Or like mothers who sensed the running
Of a predator chasing the designated prey.

6. I say to the rider galloping his swift she-camel,
As if she is a darkened night veiled in darkness:

7. O rider galloping your she-camel,
Worried, leaping into dangers -

8. For God's sake, stop by the loved ones, if you are able,
When fate has tested you and the dunes opposed you,

9. And convey over the coast of Nawa
My torment from a lover separated and worried,

10. Who has revealed privately that which he concealed,
So his patience after this separation is destroyed.

11. By God, no day has passed after your parting
Except my heart was aflame with thoughts of you.

12. It stays up tending to the stars of night in passion,
And that is known amongst all people.

13. Oh, how I wish I knew what caused
The estrangement where the rope of connection is cut!

14. Why did you not heed that estrangement is a drink
Whose bitterness, O people of love, is condemned?

15. By God, I will never awake from lamenting you
As long as the lover is blamed for loving.

16. Or may God reunite what was torn asunder,
For the youth's heart is pained when companions are lost.

17. Where are those true to the pact of love that passed
Between us, though the bonds and rope are severed?

18. If you examine the news in general,
You'll find Mansur is marked for loss.

19. He grew arrogant and ignorant in treachery
Until he set out while branded for betrayal.

20. He seeks to break the pact though the light opposes him,
But God refuses, for God's command is realized.

21. He fights God and Islam out of blindness,
Wishing the fortress of the faith was demolished.

22. Arrogance and admiration lead him astray,
So let the accursed and ill-omened straying humiliate him.

23. When he saw the party of monotheism appear,
He wished the army of God was defeated.

24. But God has promised victory to Islam,
Though the transgressor is deprived of that promise.

25. Then prayers upon our master, the seal
Of prophets, the one by whom messengers were concluded.

26. And upon his comrades and successors -
May he enjoy all that is finely ground or fluid!
