1. If it was for a sin he committed,
For which estrangement was deservedly inescapable,

2. Why not make clear that sin to me,
So I may reject what displeased, and accept what nurtured.

3. And if no sin he committed,
And was unjust to no companions, nor committed any crime,

4. Then estrangement from the most loyal friendship,
That never saw a blemish, is injustice and wrongdoing.

5. Oh, spare us estrangement and aloofness,
A bleak and gloomy path in both of them.

6. And my loyalty to you in times past,
Was steadfast, never tainted by any speck.

7. So return to the path of purity, for its way
Is your tenderness, and its reputation sublime.

8. No stumbling nor aloofness have I caused
That would make estrangement deservedly inescapable.

9. And if not this nor that, then what
I see is you abandoning what you sought resolutely.

10. Does it befit one of tender affection
To prolong estrangement without cause?

11. Why not write with peace and return
With the most pristine greetings that dispel doubts,

12. And sow in the soil of hearts, affection?
While with estrangement, it may remain diseased, always.

13. My heart was not hardened like stone
By aloofness, but rather like purity made equal to speech.
