1. O you who have forsaken the ways pleasing to God, and homelands,
And walked the path of knowledge through sorrows,

2. Exert yourself sincerely in the knowledge of hadith, and you will attain
All branches of knowledge - and hold fast to the fundamental principle.

3. For knowledge is the best pursuit and its seeker
Is the most complete of men in balance and merit.

4. Knowledge is light - so adhere to it
If you hope for success with the Merciful Lord.

5. It is salvation - in it is all benefit -
While the ignorant are the lightest in worth.

6. Knowledge raises up a house which was low
While ignorance undermines it, no matter how grand.

7. The people highest in station are the people of knowledge
While the lowest of people are those lost in confusion -

8. Unable to find the path of truth in their blindness
But steeped in ignorance and losers in the end.

9. You see them in life, broken by ignorance,
Not knowing what is weighty or trivial among people.

10. While knowledge raises them above all others,
And people recognize their superiority without question.

11. If the seeker of knowledge attains his goal
He will gain, through knowledge, pardon and acceptance.

12. So seek it for God, not glory, hoping
For virtue, success, benevolence and faith.

13. Seek it diligently throughout your life, intending
No substitute, if wakeful you have been.

14. Whoever obtains it attains lofty station
In both worlds, but without it incurs loss and decline.

15. Exert yourself in acquiring it for a time,
And be not of those who gain no wisdom despite toil.

16. No effort or deed will be wasted
For the sake of God - He will not destine loss.

17. For the seeker of pure heart and secret
Will receive pardon and forgiveness from his Lord.

18. Knowledge will raise him to high mansions in eternity
While ignorance will lead him into the fires on Judgment Day.

19. Even in this life, ignorance diminishes a person
While knowledge crowns him with the crown of honor openly.

20. If you desire to walk the path of this knowledge, take it,
Or hope one day for the proofs I have presented.

21. So listen closely to what I have conveyed, and be wakeful -
Do not be neglectful of this, O lazy one.

22. The Shaykh has compiled a concise treatise on Divine Oneness
That suffices the wise heart in explanation and clarity.

23. In it is the elucidation of God's Oneness through
What a servant should do in faithful obedience -

24. Love, fear, glorification of Him and drawing near,
And awe of the Merciful Lord in submission.

25. Likewise by vows, sacrifice, calling on Him for aid
And seeking help from the One worshipped, our Master.

26. And other acts a servant does
In obedient devotion, secretly or openly.

27. And in it is our declaration of the Oneness of the Lord through
What God does in ordinance and perfection -

28. Creating, sustaining, giving life, and omnipotence
In origination of what He wills or brings into being.

29. And the command proceeds from beyond the servants' capacity,
For that is mightiest in His affair.

30. And in it is our declaration that the Merciful has
Attributes of majesty and names for our Master -

31. Ninety nine names apart from those unstated,
Beyond mankind's enumeration.

32. With which the Merciful, our Creator, is unique,
Or what the Merciful alone knows of man.

33. We enumerate them as they are given, unable
To elaborate or interpret them in meaning.

34. And in it is the exposition of associations that contradict
Or deny His Oneness - grave innovations by those astray.

35. Or the sins that diminish the doer's Oneness and faith -
Categories of God's Oneness are presented therein.

36. As it was known by the wakeful in knowledge,
And the deficiencies presented, to distinguish truth by its opposite.

37. Incorporating in each chapter, from its pages,
Prophetic traditions and the Quran.

38. The Shaykh included what gives assurance
To the heart of the sincere in elucidation and clarity.

39. So fortify yourself through this foundation, adhering,
Bequeathing you, beyond it, knowledge of God.

40. And consider in your heart its textual structure,
There you will find indications of verification.

41. And on the issues presented, view their rulings -
Scholars will increase in divergence from them.

42. Say may God reward the Shaykh of Muslims, as
He erected pillars for the tolerant faith.

43. He stood calling people diligently
Until the doubly increased responded to him in sincerity.

44. And sincerely declared God alone, no partner to Him,
After they had long been mired in disbelief.

45. And the people, after ignorance, came to know,
Though long they had demolished the faith aggressively.

46. God made this religion manifest and its precepts spread
In the world after they had been obscured.

47. Its tenets had been grounded in the darkness of disbelief,
When people knew only disbelief for ages.

48. Calling upon false gods in foolishness,
Seeking forgiveness from the dead.

49. Bowing to other than God over what they slaughtered,
And dedicating offerings to other than God.

50. Crying for help to the deceased in severity,
Whenever a calamity occurred.

51. Wailing to them for increase and well-being -
Indeed entreating crowns and suns!

52. But the darkness of disbelief is lifted from us and its
Signs effaced - the religion increasing openly.

53. By God, then by this Shaykh when he called
Those who blocked or resisted the Oneness of our Master.

54. Now none calls upon others in hardship
Or entreats idols.

55. Rather, all calling and the religion entirely
Are sincerely for God alone in faith.

56. May God elevate him in the Abode of Paradise
In grace, favor and honor and benevolence.

57. And endow him with kindness and forgiveness
And mercy from Himself, favor and acceptance.

58. Then prayers upon our infallible master,
Most sincere of mankind in faith and devotion -

59. As long as lightning flashes or breeze blows gently,
As long as pilgrims circle the House of God,

60. Or thunder roars in clouds praising him
Or birds lament upon the branches through the eras.

61. And upon his family, companions and successors,
Holding to clear proof in faith and goodness.
