We are its people, we strangers

أرسل سلامك في الانام محمد

Send your greetings among the people, Muhammad

رمتك بما تعد لنا الليالي

Your censure struck me with all those nights you counted against me,

أترى أنت دليلي

Do you see yourself as my guide

نزل القضاء فمن يرد ويدفع

Destiny has descended, so who can repel it,

يا هاجري أين الزمان العتيق

O my companion, where is the ancient time

لا أبالي أملت في سرحة المجد

I care not if I die pursuing glory’s dreams

فما لك يا عين لم تهجعي

Why, my eyes, do you not sleep?

ويوم وطئت الثرى ووقفنا

The day you trod the earth and we stood

أمل ينطفي نديا بروحي

Hope springs gently in my soul

أحبك أغنية في الثغور

I love you, a song in the frontiers,

متى يسفر الأفق الغيهب

When will the horizon clear of mist

أنا منك جزء غير أني

I'm a part of you though I'm not you

لا أنت أزمعت ولا الفكر مات

You have not lost hope, nor has thought perished

أنا بانتظارك فاسعفي بوصال

I await you, so grant me with a union

أنتِ طيب من الزهر

You are pure like the flowers

أحبك قلت صحا لجو قولي

I love you, I said in the clear morning air

هفا الليل قومي نهز المنى

This night, arise, let us roam the highland

رحم الليل أعين السهاد

The night has mercy on the eyes of those asleep

أنا يا هواي إذا أموت

O my love, when I die

ارحم بي منك وهو ذيب

Have mercy on me, you who weakens me

إذا يموت الورد لا يمحي

If the rose dies, it only loses

وحدي أنا يا رب وحدي

Alone am I, O Lord, alone

أيها النازح المغرب مهلَا

O expatriate, gone astray, hold on

مت هل مت على درب المعالي

Delay, delay upon the path of glory,

لك الله من هاجر

To you, God, I have migrated

حواء وحي الأعالي

Eve, revelation from on high

أهواك دون رجاء

I loved you without hope

وبي سأم من قواي

I am weary of my strength,

ترف لعيني أنت أم ترف الفؤاد

Are you a delight to my eyes or a delight to my heart

أنت لي بهجة نور

You are a joyful light to me

هل تجهل الأزهار أم تدري

Do flowers know, or are they aware

يا حلوتي ويا غدي

Oh my sweetness, oh my tomorrow

مالت الأرض بالهوى من جديد

The earth inclined again with passion

عدت تهذي وهب صدقت

فيا عجباً لطويل الأناة

لي منك يا دنيا غدي

قلت لي أمسِ إنني خفقة النورِ

واني تمر علي الحياة

سئمت يا رب ولا شيء في

تنكرت لي نفسي

مداك عمر الزمان

نموت ولا نغلب

يا حسن ذاك الموعد
