- أحيا اشتياقي والأشواق قد ذهبواMy yearning was revived, though the yearnings had departed,
- أرى الريح تجري باقتدارك خالقI see the wind flowing by Your power, O Creator.
- أصبحت لا بد لي أن أنفث الصدراThis morning I must unburden my breast
- أضحى فؤادي والأشواق مرتبضاMy heart has come to lie settled amid longings,
- ألا إنما قلبي به الحب قد يبصرBehold, through my heart alone love may perceive
- ألا أيها الحب الذي ضاء شوقهAh, beloved, whose longing shone,
- ألا عم صباحاً أيها الربع منعماAh, good morning, O dwelling, blessed with ease!
- ألا من كان يهوى لا يمينBehold—whoever loves needs no oath.
- إن ذنوبي ربنا هي العيوبIndeed, my sins, our Lord, are the faults.
- إني بلا مهلة أقول في مهلIndeed, without delay, I speak unhurriedly.
- إني على الإله ربي متكلIndeed, I rely on God, my Lord,
- أيا رافع ارفعني بعلم وبالتقىO Exalter, raise me through knowledge and piety.
- أيا نفس إن الله خالقنا قبلO soul, surely God created us beforehand,
- بالبحر قيلولة والشوق أختنقA noonday rest by the sea; with longing, I suffocate.
- بالواسعات أرى الأشواق تنهمرIn the wide expanses I see longings pouring down.

- بك حولي واعتصاميThrough You I have strength and refuge,
- تنصلت للمولى على المنع والكرهI made my excuses to the Lord for withholding and aversion.
- جرى الحب في قلبي كما العلو في الأرضLove flowed through my heart as loftiness through the earth.
- جريت مع الأشواق من بعد أهلهاI hurried with yearnings away from those I love
- جف الكرى عكس الدموع معاً دماSleep dried up; tears, by contrast, flowed together as blood.

- راشد العاشقين زد لي فؤاديO guide of lovers, give my heart more
- رب اهدني لما تحب منيMy Lord, guide me to what You love from me.
- سأطلب في حوائج للكريمIn all my needs, I shall petition the All-Generous,
- سقيت وقد تسقى القلوب من الوجدI gave drink—and hearts may indeed be watered by ardent longing—
- سما مجد من أهواه طاب لثامهThe glory of the one I love has soared; sweet is his kiss.

- فلازم لصمت واعتزال عن الورىSo hold fast to silence and seclusion from humankind.
- لقد كنت قبل اليوم عطشان بالظماBefore today, I had indeed been parched with thirst,
- لقد لاح من هند هدى راح لائحاًIndeed, guidance from Hind appeared, then passed on gleaming.
- لك قلبي لك حبيMy heart is yours; my love is yours.
- ليالي سلمى ترتقي لي وتراقياSalma's nights rise toward me and my collarbones,
- لئن قلتم جسمي نحيل فذا جسميIf indeed you say my body is frail, then this body of mine
- ما لي سواك رب ذي الإجابهI have none but You, my Lord who answers,
- مييمن سائمتي بمتينMuyaymin afflicts me with the might
- ناشد البيت إن قلبي أراهO reciter of the verse, indeed I see my heart
- وإذا السرور تحبه مترقياAnd if you love joy as you rise higher,
- ولقد علمت بأن رزقي يأتينيAnd indeed, I have learned that my sustenance comes to me,
- ولما علمت الأمر بالستر ظاهراAnd when I knew the matter to be manifest through concealment,
- يا رب لا أقع فيما خجلO my Lord, let me not fall into what brings shame,
- يا رب ما أسأت فيه الأدباO Lord, whatever I have done in breach of proper conduct,
- يا مظهر الإصباح بعد الليلO You who bring forth daybreak after night,
