- أرى المستخدمين مشوا جميعاI see the users have all walked
- أزمعوا البين وشدوا الركاباThey resolved on departure and saddled the riding camels.
- الصبح بدا من طلعتهDawn appeared from his countenance.
- إلهي على كل الأمور لك الحمدMy God, for all affairs, praise belongs to You.
- إلى متى أنت باللذات مشغولHow long will you remain engrossed in pleasures,
- اليوم قد حكم الهوى بالمعدلهToday love has judged with justice,
- أما المحبة لمن فهي بذل نفوسAs for love, for whomever it is, it is the sacrifice of souls.
- أمدائح لي فيك أم تسبيحAre these praises of mine for you, or glorification?
- أمن تذكر جيران بذي سلمIs it from remembering neighbors at Dhu Salam

- انظر بحقك في أمر الدواوينBy your right, look into the affairs of the bureaus.

- أهل التقى والعلم أهل السؤددThe people of piety and learning are the people of eminence.
- أهوى والمشيب قد حال دونهLove, when gray hair has already barred its way?
- بقبة قبر الشافعي سفينةAtop the dome of al-Shafi‘i’s tomb is an ark,
- بمدح المصطفى تحيا القلوبThrough praise of the Chosen One, hearts come alive,
- تجنب أحاديث الحسود فواجبAvoid the envious man's talk, for it is a duty

- قل لعلي الذي صداقتهTell Ali—he whose friendship
- قل لولي الدولة المرتجىTell the guardian of the state, in whom hopes are placed,
- قلت لكم عند السراق مبلغI told you: among the thieves is one who conveys
- كتب المشيب بأبيض في أسودGray hair wrote, in white upon black,
- كم قلت للأكرم الحشاء أنصحهHow often I told the generous al-Ḥashshāʾ, as I counseled him:
- كونوا معي عونا على الأيامStand by me, a help against the days.
- كيف ترقى رقيك الأنبياءHow can the prophets ascend to your ascent?
- لا تظلموني وتظلموا الحسبهDo not wrong me and wrong the market inspectorate;
- لقد عاب شعري في البرية شاعرA poet among mankind has found fault with my verse;
- ليت شعري ما مقتضى حرمانيIf only I knew what warrants my deprivation,
- ما أكلنا في ذا الصيام كنافهWe have eaten no kunafa during this fast.
- ما في الزمان جوادIn this age there is no generous man
- ما للنصارى إلي ذنبThe Christians have done me no wrong;
