نَهَى السُّلْطانُ عَنْ شُرْبِ الْحُمَيَّا

نَهَى السُّلْطانُ عَنْ شُرْبِ الْحُمَيَّا

وَصَبَّر حَدَّها حَدَّ الْيَمَانِيْ

وَصَبَّر حَدَّها حَدَّ الْيَمَانِيْ

The sultan forbade the drinking of strong wine,

The sultan has forbidden drinking wine

And made its penalty the edge of the Yemeni blade;

And punished it as severely as the law of Yemen

فما جَسَرَتْ مُلُوكُ الجِنِّ مِنْهُ

فما جَسَرَتْ مُلُوكُ الجِنِّ مِنْهُ

لِجَوْفِ الْقَتْلِ تَدْخُلُ في القَنَانِيْ

لِجَوْفِ الْقَتْلِ تَدْخُلُ في القَنَانِيْ

So, for fear of him, the kings of the jinn did not dare

So not even the kings of jinn have dared it

To enter the bottles, into the maw of slaughter.

For fear of being slain if found with a flask
