بأبي شبيه بالنبي

With my father, alike to the Prophet,

حمى نبي الهدى بالسيف منصلتاً

The Prophet's zeal was guarded by the sword unsheathed

أشاقتك أطلال بوجرة درس

The ruins yearned for you in agony

جبت لما أسرى الإله بعبده

I was inspired when God took His servant

وقد زاد نفسي واطمأنت وآمنت

And my soul has been calmed and assured

عزروا الأملاك في دهرهم

They honored tyrants in their time

تولى الجود وانقرض الكرام

Generosity has declined and nobility perished

أجدك ما لعينك لا تنام

I find you sleepless, as if your eyelids

يا عوف ويحك هلا قلت عارفة

O Awf, woe to you! Why did you not speak with knowledge

يـاعين فابكى ولاتسـأَمى

O eyes, weep and do not tire,

ابن نهيا رأس علي ثقيل

The son of Nahya, his head weighs heavy upon me,

كل امرىء مصبح في أهله

Every man glows among his own people.

يا رب ما يخشى ولا يضير

O Lord, nothing is feared or harms

عين جودي فإن ذاك شفائي

The eye of my generosity, for that is my remedy

هنيئاً زادك الرحمن خيراً

Congratulations, may God increase your bounty,

تعدون قتلاً في الحرام عظيمة

You consider killing in the sacred month a grave sin,

أمست هموم ثقال قد تأوبني

The burdens are now heavy upon me, bending me over

الحمد لله على الإسلام

Praise be to Allah for Islam

أشاقك بالملا دمن عواف

Your love has consumed me with passion's fire,

ولقد عجبت لأهل هذا الطائف

I am amazed by the people of this valley,

صحا من سكره وسلا

He woke from his drunkenness and departed,

أيا عين جودي ولا تسأمي

O my eyes, keep shedding tears generously,

عجبت بإزراء العيي بنفسه

I marvel at the old man's self-deprecation

أشاقك من عهد الخليط مغان

قال النبي ولم أجزع يوقرني

عرفت دياراً بالحمى فشرائث

لما رأيت نبينا متحملاً

رب ريح لأناس عصفت

حين ولى الناس وانخذلوا

أشاقك بالمنتصى منزل

أتذكر داراً بين دمخ ومنورا
