1. Generosity has declined and nobility perished
Glory no longer has a pillar

2. So no one is to blame if the people bid
Farewell to the world and its inhabitants

3. You have lost the best of those who rode steeds
Who watered a land enveloped in clouds

4. The landmarks became desolate and shuddered
At losing him and he cloaked them in darkness

5. Religion and world alike wept for him
And the Sacred City wept for his loss

6. Every being with eyes wept for him
Even doves in their nests wept for him

7. We wail over a matter so grievous
It makes young men and boys turn gray

8. He came to us while people strayed
So through him people found guidance

9. God’s faith was disgraced by sins
So faith grew strong and sins shunned

10. Religion’s robes were tattered
So truth no longer had ragged robes

11. God’s paths were cloaked in darkness
Through the Prophet, darkness lifted from them

12. He established a pillar of Islam for us
An unshakable one that would not crumble

13. He laid down for us Islam’s path—
Five prayers followed by fasting

14. He enjoined the capable to come near through Hajj
So crowds increased at the Stone

15. He said he would intercede
For those whose submission was meet

16. So the Prophet did not cease to dwell among us
And dwelling in his company was sweet

17. He gave us sight and hearing though we were
Like roaming camels, lost

18. We saw that we surpassed all other people by far
And the violent hordes were honored by this

19. But time assailed him against our will
So fate’s arrows were let loose on him

20. He lost interest in the world
And every soul is fated to turn from it

21. There is none in the land granted respite
Before his time is cut short by death, so prepare!
