- ألج فؤادي اليوم فيما تذكراMy heart persisted today in what it remembered,
- إن الأراقم لا يغشاهم بوسIndeed, no misery befalls al-Araqim,
- إن شتم الكريم يا عتب خطبReviling a noble man, O ʿUtb, is indeed a calamity—
- إني أخال عليا غير مرتدعI think Ali will not be deterred
- أيا راكبا إما عرضت فبلغنO rider, if you happen to pass by, convey this

- وما في من خير وشر فإنهاAnd whatever there is in me of good and evil is
- وهل أنتم إلا كأبناء نهشلAnd are you not just like the sons of Nahshal,
- يا أيها الرجل المبدي عداوتهO man who openly displays his enmity,
