Jaʿda, weep for him, and do not grow weary,
With unkempt hair weeping endlessly
after the wailing lament of a parent bereft of a child,
After the wailing of the bereaved mother

لَمْnever يَسَلِflowed السُّمpoison عَلَىover مِثْلِهِhis equal
فِيon الأرضِthe earth مِنْamong حَافٍa barefoot person وَمِنْand among نَاعِلِone wearing sandals
Never has poison flowed over his equal
Poison did not flow to his like
on earth, among the barefoot and the shod.
On earth, from a snake or a sand viper

He would, whenever his fire was kindled for him,
Whenever its fire was kindled for him
raise it high with the slaying lord,
He would lift it with the killer master

so that a wretched man, out of provisions, might see it,
So that a suffering, destitute person would see it
or a lone tribesman, not at home with his family.
Or an individual whose tribe was not empty

He boiled raw meat until, when
He would boil the sons of flesh until when
it was cooked, he charged no eater dearly.
He sufficiently cooked, he did not overcook for the eater
أَعْنِيI mean الَّذِيthe one whose أسْلَمَنَاhanded us over هُلْكُهُhis death
لِلزَّمَنِto Time الْمُسْتَخْرِجِwhich strips away المْاحِلِthe schemer
I mean the man whose death surrendered us
I mean the one whose loss
to Time, which strips us bare and schemes against us.
We surrendered to the extracting, vanishing time
