Muʿāwiya, if you come to us foaming,

with a dark-green host, you will meet a surging one.

Its spearheads, with the blood of men,

when the horses wheel, gush freely.

Its horsemen are like lions in combat,

in need of God amid the killing.

And it does not hesitate before death,

nor grow clamorous in the face of fear.

They have no need, save in earnest battle,

for their swords to be long.

Their 'error' is the forefront of their swords [perhaps 'their strides' is intended],

and their arms are not stunted.

And you have proof of their blows:

it has already carried out an expulsion [apparently yesterday].

Then it assailed them with white swords,

with them, contentious truffles—thus [wording unclear].
