أنَّthat الكتَائِبَthe battalions لاnot يُهْزَمْنَare defeated بالكُتُبِby letters
Tell Shihab—and the best speech is the truest—
that battalions are not defeated by letters.
تُهدِyou send الوَعِيدَthreats بأعْلَىfrom the upper part of الرَّملِthe sands منof إضَمٍIḍam

You send threats from the upper sands of Iḍam;
so if you want to fight the men, draw near.

And if you miss their battles in Jumada,
then we shall meet you in Shaʿban or Rajab.
