أمن المنون وريبها تتوجع

She worries of death and its misfortune,

صبا صبوة بل لج وهو لجوج

Time passed in torrents, yet still flows headstrong,

وأشعث ماله فضلات ثول

His unkempt hair is strewn with crumbs

نام الخلي وبت الليل مشتجرا

The crescent heralded nightfall while they disputed,

أبالصرم من أسماء حدثك الذي

The one who told you about Asma's meadows

ألا ليت شعري هل تنظر خالد

Alas! Would that I knew if Khalid ever

تؤمل أن تلاقي أم وهب

You hope to meet Umm Wahb

يا بيت خثماء الذي يتحبب

O home of Khathmah that is so dear

عرفت الديار لأم الرهين

I knew the abode of Umm al-Rahin

أصبح من أم عمرو بطن مر فأج

The camels of Umm 'Amr have become lean after a fertile season,

أعاذل إن الرزء مثل ابن مالك

I plead, verily tribulation is like Ibn Malik

أدرك أرباب النعم

The masters of bounty attained

وأبلغ لديك معقل بن خويلد

And convey to Ma'qil ibn Khuwailid

وقائلة ما كان حذوة بعلها

The wife who was once obedient to her husband

ويل أم قتلى فويق القاع من عشر

Woe to the mother of the slain, scattered across the land,

هل الدهر إلا ليلة ونهارها

Is fate but a night and a day

عرفت الديار كرقم الدوا

I knew the abodes like pages of prose

ألا هل أتى أم الحويرث مرسل

Has the mother of Al-Huwairith been visited by a messenger?

أمن أم سفيان طيف سرى

Is it from Umm Sufyan a spirit passed by,

يقولون لي لو كان بالرمل لم يمت

They say to me, had he been with the sand, he would not have died

ألا زعمت أسماء أن لا أحبها

أبى الله إلا أن يقيدك بعدما

لعمرك والمنايا غالبات

تالله يبقى على الأيام مبتقل

أمن آل ليلى بالضجوع وأهلنا

جمالك أيها القلب القريح

وما حمل البختي عام غياره

ما بال عيني لا تجف دموعها

أساءلت رسم الدار أم لم تسائل

أمنك البرق أرقبه فهاجا
