- فصادفنا في الصبح علج مصردIn the morning we came across a thin and gaunt colt
- فلو كان حي في الحياة مخلداIf He Were Living an Immortal Life

- كهوي الدلو نزاها المعلDrawn from the well, pure it was lifted

- نزل المشيب بوفده لا مرحباOld age descended with its delegation, without welcome
- نصفه جوزه نصير شواهHalf of it is walnuts, the other half is pine nuts
- هذا ورب مسوفين صبحتهم
- هنأناهم حتى أعان عليهمWe congratulated them until stars
- هيج الداء في فؤادك حورGraceful houris stirred longing in your heart

- وأطف حديث السوء بالصمت إنهSilence the softest speech of evil, for it is
- وإني لابن سادات
- وإني لأغنى الناس عن متكلفI am the richest of men, without affectation
- وبسل أن أرى جارات بيتيNeighbors of My Home
- وتركت العير يدمى نحره
- وخلال الأضر جم من العيش
- وعداتي شمت أعجبهمMy Promises Amazed Them
- وعند الإله ما يكيد عبادهAt God's There's What Harms His Servants
- وعون يباكرن النظيمة مربعاWith helpers who rise early for well-knit verses
- وقد دخلت على الحسناء كلتها
- وكسرى إذ تقسمه بنوهKisra When His Sons Divide Him
- ولا تأمنن من مبغض قرب دارهDo not trust the hatred of your neighbor
- ولا تفشين سرا إلى غير حرزهDo not reveal a secret to anyone but its keeper
- ولا تك في الإلحاح في إثر فائتDo not persist in pursuing what is past and gone
- ولشؤم البغي والغشم قدماFor Shoes of Ill Omen and Deceitful Malice
- ولقد أغدو بطرف زانه
- ولقد ألهو ببكر رسلWa laqad alhaw bibakr rusul
- ولقد شربت الخمر أسقى صرفهاI drank wine pure and unmixed
- ولقد عديت دوسرةI Shall Pass This Mountain Pass
- ولك المال والبلاد وما يملكYou have the money and the country and whatever else
- وما بدأت خليلا لي أخا ثقةI Seek No Confidant
- وما خنت ذا عهد وأبت بعهده
- ومجود قد اسجهر تناويرA generous one who stayed up long nights
- ومن حذر الأيام ما حز أنفهFrom Days' Affliction No Man's Nose is Safe
- ومن لا يورع نفسه يتبع الهوىHe Who Indulges His Desires Follows His Passions
- ووطيد مستعل سيبه
- ويأكلن ما أغنى الولي فلم يلتAnd they eat what the guardian enriched, yet they do not become sated
- ويح أم دار حللنا بها
- يا خليلي يسرا التعسيراOh my beloved, make the difficult easy
- يا لبينى أوقدي النارا
- يخرجن من مستطير النقع دامية
- يشتاق قلبي إلى مليكة لوMy Beloved Malika
- يهيجه الصوت الضئيل وقرنهThe faint sound stirs him, and his horn,
- يوم قلت عيرهم من عيرناThe day their caravan grew less than ours
