Man has no refuge from the ravages of time,

No shelter from its storms can last.

I've seen what happened to people before me,

And all that comes after will also pass.

I watch the lofty mountain, worn away,

Collapsing under clouds and wind and rain.

The proud are humbled, their glories fade,

Fortune betrays them, joy turns to pain.

Fate strips away all we own and love,

Our lives flicker out like guttering flames.

Each living soul is guided by the hand

Of one whose eyes are blind to what they see.
