- أرى في البهار النرجسي تلألؤاI see a radiance in the narcissus-like bahār blossom,
- أصفر الخيري عنديThe yellow wallflower, to my mind,
- ألا حبذا السوسن الأزرقAh, how lovely the blue iris!
- أهلا وسهلا بوفود الربيعWelcome, a warm welcome, to spring’s arriving hosts,
- أيا شقيقي إخاءO you two brothers in fellowship,
- أيا ماجدا لم يزل جودهO noble man whose generosity has never ceased
- أيا ملك الأملك والسيد الذيO most sovereign king, and lord who
- حج الحجيج مني ففازوا بالمنىThe pilgrims made pilgrimage to Mina and attained their wishes.
- رب ليل طال لا صبح لهMany a night stretched long, with no dawn to break it—
- عباد يا خير الورىʿAbbād, O best of humankind,
- في النرجس الغض شبه لإخفاء بهIn the tender narcissus is a likeness, plain to see,
- قد جاءنا رائد الربيعIndeed, spring's herald has come to us
- قد هجر الأنس والسرورCompanionship and joy have fled,
- قدم البهار مع البنفسج فاشربنThe daisy has come with the violet—so drink
- قل لأبي جعفر المنتقىSay to Abū Jaʿfar, chosen
- مزة ماتت زماناA tart wine lay dead for a time,
- وأقحوان راقني نورهAnd a daisy—its bloom delighted me,
- وثلاثة لما اجتمعن بمجلسAnd three, when they gathered in an assembly,
- وثلاثة لما اجتمعن بمجلسي أقررنAnd three, when they met at my gathering,
- وجلنار بنوره يزهرAnd a pomegranate blossom shines with its radiance;
- وخميلة رقم الزمان أديمهاAnd a lush grove—Time embroidered its skin
- وذكي العرف لاقاناAnd a sweet-scented one met
- وروضة محفوفةAnd a garden surrounded
- وروضة مشرقةAnd a radiant garden,
- وسوسن راق مرآه ومخبرهAnd an iris, pleasing in outward appearance and inner nature;
- ومهفهف غض الشباب منعمA slender, pampered youth, in the tender bloom of youth—
- ونرجس هب يرنوAnd a narcissus stirred, gazing
- يا إماما في السبق يوم الرهانO leader, foremost on the day of the race,
- يا حبذا النيلوفر الطالعHow lovely is the rising water lily,
- يا زهر اللوز لقد فقت فيO almond blossom, you have indeed excelled in
- يا مالك السحر والبيانO master of enchantment and eloquence,
- يا من تحلى به الفخO you with whom glory has adorned itself,
- يا نديمي قم اصطبحO my drinking companion, rise and take a morning drink.
- يا واحد الأدباء غير مدافعO peerless one among men of letters, beyond dispute,
- يا واحد الأدباء والشعراءO peerless one among men of letters and poets,
