    يلوح كما لاح ضوء النهار

    O noble man whose generosity has never ceased

    to shine as the light of day shines;

    and O you who have lodged within your wealth

    a bounty that puts the rain's downpour to shame:

    I sent you bahār blossoms,

    resembling silver surrounding pure gold.

    بواقيت فاقعة الاصفرار

    They are pearls, among which are strung

    gems of brilliant yellow;

    or water above which has been heaped—

    when you contemplate it—the light of fire.

    Daylight, and yet dazzling,

    so 'bahār' was substituted for that name,

    just as the mark of eminence in you dazzled

    and clothed the full moon in the garment of moonless nights.

    May you live on, protected from the blows of death,

    for in every affair you are my pivot.
