قد هجر الأنس والسرور

قد هجر الأنس والسرور

إذ هجر الشادن النفور

Companionship and joy have fled,

since the skittish fawn has departed.

وغيضت غيضة التمني

وغيضت غيضة التمني

فطرف نوارها حسير

فطرف نوارها حسير

And the grove of longing has been drained,

so the gaze of its blossoms is weary.

وأقفر الربع بعد أنسٍ

وأقفر الربع بعد أنسٍ

فعمر لهو الفتى قصير

فعمر لهو الفتى قصير

And the dwelling has grown desolate after fellowship,

for the span of the young man's merriment is short.
