لما رأى العام زمان الربيع

وجلنارية مسكية النفس
With cheeks aflame and breath sweet as musk -
بعثت بأغرب الأشياء طرا
I sent the strangest of things as a gift
وثلاثة لما اجتمعن بمجلس
When three gathered in a session
نبل البنفسج فاحتوى التفضيلا
The violet excelled in merit
ما طلعت في قوسها
She rose not in her arc
أما ترى ثمر العناب موقرة
See the fruit of the jujube tree honored
ومضرج الاثواب مسكي النفس
In robes stained with musk, his breath sweet smelling,
وحالك اللون كلون المسك
Your complexion is like the color of musk
قد أخذ الأفق في البكاء
The horizon has begun to weep,
ومطبقة لفقين أحسن ما ترى
And closed upon the eyelids most beautifully have you seen
وبنات للباقلاء تبدت
Girls blossomed for the farmer
ضحك الثرى وبدا لك استبشاره
The soil laughed and its joy appeared to you
وزعفرانية في ثوب محزون
A saffron-hued flower in a mourning robe
وأبيض ناصع صافي الأديم
With immaculate, pure white skin
زمرد أورقت أغصانه دررا
Emerald branches laden with pearls
ضحى أناخوا بوادي الطلح عيرهم
