1. When springtime came and meadows bloomed,
He hurried to reach his goal, but the more he tried, the more he failed.

2. The light had scattered its gold dinars,
Gleaming or gilded, whichever you please.

3. When his efforts proved fruitless,
He found no way to attain his aim.

4. So he said, “Lend me a day, just one month,”
But the meadows answered back,

5. “That would be usury, which God
Has forbidden in His revelation.”
