وفارقت حتى ما أبالي من النوى
I parted from home and ceased to care where I pitched my tent
ألا حبذا البيت الذي أنت هاجره
Oh how blessed is the house you emigrate to
أتيتك إذ لم يبق غيرك جابر
I came to you when there was no one left but you to mend
قضى الله يا سمراء مني لك الهوى
God decreed, O dark-eyed one, that I should love you
مبلغ التقريب يعبوب إذا
The extent of approximation is a hyena when
يضعفني حلمي وكثرة جهلهم
Their abundant ignorance and my dream weaken me,
ان الغواني جنة ريحانها
The songs are a garden, their fragrance
لو يعبد الناس يا مهدي أفضلهم
If people worshipped the best among them, O Mahdi
ولي كبد مقروحة من يبيعني
I have a wounded liver, who will buy
بكرت عليك فهيجت وجدا
She rose early and stirred up a passion,
من كل بيضاء مخماص لها بشر
From every white cheek whose bloom
لعمرك للبيت الذي لا نطوره
By your life, the home we do not leave
إن الخليط أجدوا البين فادلجوا
They found the mixture most excellent and started mixing,
ذكرت شكاتك لي وكاسي في يدي
I recalled your complaints to me with my cup in hand
خليلي هذي زفرة اليوم قد مضت
My beloved, today's sigh has passed
إليك أمير المؤمنين تعسفت
To you, O Commander of the Faithful, the deserted dwellings have become desolate,
ليهنك أني لم أطع بك واشيا
Let it please you that I did not obey a slanderer,
أيا ظبية الوعساء أنت شبيهة
O gazelle-eyed one with graceful neck, you are like a doe
رأت رجلا أودى بوافر لحمه
She saw a man made bulky by his abundant flesh
يا صاح هل أنت بالتعريج تنفعنا
Oh companion, do you benefit us with wandering
له يوم بؤس فيه للناس أبؤس
He has a day of adversity in which there is adversity for people,
أحن ويثنيني الهوى نحو يثرب
I yearn and love inclines me towards Yathrib
سلام على البيت الذي لا نزوره
Peace be upon the house we dare not visit
وليس فتى الفتيان من راح واغتدى
The youth of youths is not one who went and took
ألما على معن وقولا لقبره
When blamed for his meaning and words at his grave
لقد كنت جلدا قبل أن توقد النوى

كثرت لكثرة قطره أطباؤه
أين أهل القباب بالدهناء
أحب مكارم الأخلاق جهدي
عرفت منازلا بشعاب شرج
