أصبح الملك عاليا بأبي العباس

The kingdom rose high with my father Al-'Abbas

ألا قل لخير الناس نفسا ووالدا

Tell the best of people in self and forebears,

قل للخليفة ترب العلم والأدب

Tell the Caliph, the soil of knowledge and literature

شهيداه إن لم تظلميه نحول

If you do not wrong him, his martyrs, should they weep for him, their tears abundantly flowing,

قل لخير الكفاة أحمد

Say to the best of benefactors, Ahmad

بارك الله للأمير أبي العباس

May Allah bless the Prince Abu al-Abbas, the best of kings, on New Year's

ما على الأرض مادح لكم قبلى

No one praised you before me while my right was neglected between you

أثبت الرحمن بالسعد المضي

The Merciful has established with good fortune

يا مليح الدلال رفقا بصب

O beauty of allure, be gentle with one in sickness

أبغضته من بعدما بذل الرضا

I hated him after satisfaction was granted;

يا أميرا ما رأينا

O prince, we have not seen

نعم الورى بسوابغ النعماء

What a good land with abundant blessings!

سيدي أنت إنني بك صب

My master, I am ardently in love with you

وصلت رقعة الأمير الرئيس

The letter of the eminent Chief

غشيتني من الهموم غواش

The sorrows have overwhelmed me, oh how they gush

ضحك الدهر بعد طول عبوس

حب لأحمد قد فشا

تعز يا خير الورى عن أخ

عذلت امرءا في عشقه ليس يعذرك

وفزت بما تهوى وصالت على العدا

ذنبي إلى الدهر أني لم أمد يدي

بقيت أمير المؤمنين على الدهر

أسرك يا مناي ولا أسوك

متيم متلفه تلدده

يا مذيقي غصة الكمد
