1. Congratulations to the minister for fulfilling a debt
Through him, time's eye beams with joy

2. And the promise of ministry which came to him
Is like the return of a loved one after separation

3. My lord Abu Abdullah is of great virtue
He is easygoing and gentle

4. And this brings joy to Yaqub, his brother
And their noble clan, the father of Al-Hussein

5. They are the two moons of time and its pride
Bringing glory to the kingdom, removing dishonor and evil

6. They have counseled it with care and attention
Concerning its interests, the overseers

7. Corruption had mounted, but to bring it down
None will suffice but the reform of these two

8. And it brings joy to Abdullah among them
For he is its outstanding youth

9. A crescent whose light the nights have not scattered
Nor diminished with the passing days

10. Sovereignty accompanies him without fail
And he resembles it, like two linked moons

11. As you placed a line of text in a book
Without dotting it beyond the first letter

12. A minister whose days are raising him high
With hands unfettered against his foes

13. He makes wealth petty through his extreme generosity
And reaching the pinnacle of generosity is no easy climb

14. Time will fulfil him with length of days
For holding authority demands total debt

15. Robes of honor became lost on him
With a lofty spirit, the peaks his stature

16. Their blackness pales the darkness of nights
As the blackness of kohl pales the eyes

17. In his words, gems sparkle
As the stars of Al-Shi’ra twinkle

18. A dangling ornament, parts of which are thin
Polished and delicate in texture

19. Like his opinion in the nights and days
The actions of two intrepid stars

20. May God raise all our lords
And maintain them with lasting permanence

21. And spare them from the claws of death
In their youth and in their old age

22. A kingdom for the earth and days of clarity
Pouring on its enemies, oh what ruin!

23. How they were blamed for excessive grace
But they did not heed the critics’ rebuke

24. I speak truly what I know
Far from lies and disgrace

25. They have protected the ministry after violation
And honored it though it lacked honor

26. With enlightened counsel for the loyalists
And firmness against the hostile and weak

27. Their pens judge the enemies
Like the judgment of sword and sturdy spear

28. The spear among them has no need of whetting
The sword no need to be sharpened

29. The books flutter with what they have forbidden
Through which comes the rectitude of both parties

30. You see the fates rising to him
Dragged between submission and obedience

31. Your reward for reforming a kingdom
Is the reward of martyrs of Badr or Hunayn

32. For a time, you brought prosperity to the noble clan
Whose prosperity is long for one who herds them

33. Muhammad has raised you in station
And Yaqub, noble in lineage

34. You have inherited generosity and merit from them
For so comes the progeny of two virtuous men

35. You have set right what discord my world saw
Out of nobility and in spite of hostility

36. I will fulfil the rights of praising you
As a father’s rights are fulfilled by his sons
