1. The letter of the eminent Chief
Of the time reached me, so precious and dear

2. It removed all my complaints and granted
Me delight, taking away every sorrow

3. And poetry came, healing and remedy
And a companion surpassing all companions

4. Pleasant words, gladdening all who hear
Along with the rapture of the cups’ intimates

5. Nature endowed it with skill, to enlighten
The minds of all, like a radiant bride

6. God has brought joy to my time through the Chief
Though before him it was ever so bleak

7. Since God decreed that I sit by his side
As a lord of all who would draw near

8. The thanks of servants falls short of the grace
Of a lord like the pardon falls short of Iblis
