1. The Merciful has established with good fortune
An everlasting state that will not pass away
١. أَثْبَتُ الرَّحْمنُ بالسَّعْدِ المْضُي
دَوْلَةً قَائِمَةً لاَ تَنْقْضِي
2. For Abul 'Abbas, may God forgive him, He has led it
As God has decreed for the Imam al-Murtada
٢. لأَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ عَفْواً سَاقَهَا
قَدَرُ اللهِ الإِمَامِ الْمُرْتَضِي
3. A state for which all creation yearns
Whether mentioned by a friend or foe
٣. دَوْلَةٌ يَأْملُهَا كُلُّ الْوَرَى
مَالَهَا إِنْ ذُكِرَتْ مِنْ مُبْغِضِ
4. Though the face of the ruler was darkened, still
He met glances with a shining face
٤. كَاَنَ وَجْهُ المُلْكِ مُسْوَدّاً فَقَدْ
قَابَلَ اللَّحْظَ بِوَجْهٍ أَبْيَضِ
5. O Trustee of God, O you whose generosity
Has raised me from the misfortune of my fate
٥. يَا أَمِينَ اللهِ يَا مَنْ جُودُهُ
إِنْ كَبَا دَهْرِي بِحَظِّي مُنْهِضِي
6. Sadness prevails, and loss of contentment
And worry makes my body sick
٦. غَلَبُ الْوَجْدِ وفِقْدَانُ الرِّضَي
وكَلاَّ جِسْمِي بِهَمٍّ مُمْرِضِ
7. My fortune was inclined towards you
But it turned away with an averted face
٧. كانَ حَظِّي بِكَ نَحْوِي مُقْبِلاً
فَانْثَنَى عَنْهُ بِوَجْهٍ مُعْرِضِ
8. Fate loaned my youth some gray hairs
Though I did not seek to borrow them
٨. أَقْرَضَ الدَّهْرُ شَبَابِي شَيْبَةً
لَمْ أَكُنْ أَطْلُبُهَا مِنْ مُقْرِضِ
9. When white hairs flow, they do not hamper
Enthusiasm in pursuing desires
٩. لَيْسَ لِلشُّهْبِ إِذَا مَا جَارَتِ ال
دُّهْمَ في سَبْقِ الْهَوَى مِنْ رائِضِ
10. My soul laments my former closeness
That was mine from the day of my prestige
١٠. أسفَتْ نَفْسِي عَلَى قُرْبِي الَّذي
كَانَ مِنْ يَومِ احْتِفَالِي مُغْرِضِي
11. You have a servant whom, after you
Illness has wasted and weakened
١١. لَكَ عَبْدٌ مَسَّهُ بَعْدَكُ مَا
وَكَّلَ الْجِسْمَ بِدَاءٍ مُحْرِضِ
12. Separation was imposed on him unwillingly
People do not reverse what is decreed
١٢. قُضيَ الْبُعْدُ عَلَيْهِ كَارِهاً
لاَ يَرُدُّ النَّاسُ أَمْراً قَدْ قُضِي
13. Each day the sword of harm brandished
With lies about you all is drawn out
١٣. كُلَّ يَوْمٍ يَنْتَضِي سَيْفَ أَذًى
بِالتَّكَاذِيبِ عَلَيْكُمْ مُنْتَضِي
14. What does he care, when he sees your pain,
Whether fate is angry with him or content?
١٤. مَا يُبَالِي إِذْ رَأَى فِيكَ ألْمَي
غَضِبَ الدَّهْرُ عَلَيْهِ أَمْ رَضِي
