نعم الورى بسوابغ النعماء

1. What a good land with abundant blessings!
And they were saved from adversity and harm.

١. نَعِمَ الْوَرَى بِسَوابِغِ النَّعْماءِ
وَنَجَوْا مِنَ الْبأْساءِ والضَّرَّاءِ

2. God supported the father of loyalty with His victory,
The support of the Caliphate, the master of princes.

٢. عَضَدَ الآلهُّ أَبا الْوَفاءِ بِنَصْرِهِ
عَضُدَ الخْلافَةِ سَيِّدَ الأُمَراءِ

3. So my heart was relieved from the burning of separation
And the blaze of the fire of passion and sickness.

٣. فأُرِيحَ قَلْبِي مِنْ جَوَى الْبُرَحاءِ
وَلَهيبِ نَارِ الْوَجْدِ وَالأدْواءِ

4. Time has returned to the freshness of its life,
And adversities were removed with joy.

٤. عَادَ الزَّمانُ إلىَ نَضارَةِ عَيْشِهِ
وَأُزِيلَتِ الْبَأساءُ بالسَّرَّاءِ

5. His victorious sword connects to the follower
Like the connection of unwilling love to estrangement.

٥. قَدْ واصَلَ النَّصْر للتْابِعَ سَيْفُهُ
كَوِصالِ حِبٍّ كارِهٍ لِجفَاءِ

6. Every day for the enemies is an affliction from him
That destroys them, and the sword of annihilation.

٦. فِي كُلِّ يَوْمٍ للأَعادِي وَقْعَةٌ
مِنْهُ تُبِيدُهُمُ وَسَيْفُ فَناءِ

7. So when they saw him approaching,
They fled like frightened sheep from fierce wolves.

٧. فَتَراهُمُ لَمَّا رَأَوْهُ مُقْبِلاً
كَالشَّاءِ يَنْفُرِ مِنْ أُسُودِ ضِرَاءِ

8. Slain and killed, and those who escaped destruction
Were imprisoned in humiliation by him.

٨. صَرْعَى وَقَتْلَى وَالَّذِي فاتَ الرَّدَى
مِنْهُمُ حَلِيفُ الذُّلِّ في الأُسَراءِ

9. The days smiled after their gloominess through him,
And the light shone through the darkness because of him.

٩. ضَحِكَتْ بِه الأَيَّامُ بَعْدَ قُطُوبِها
وَجَلا الضِّياءُ بِهِ دُجَى الظَّلْماءِ

10. So pray to eliminate the anxiety and distress
You saw yesterday and the day before.

١٠. فَصلُوا السُّرُور قَضَاءَ ما عايَنْتُمُوا
بِالأَمْسِ مِنْ هَمٍّ وَمِنْ بُرَحاءِ

11. The lion who pounces on prey has recovered
From all his complaints and pains.

١١. قَدْ عُوفِي اللَّيْثُ الْمُطِلُّ عَلى الغْدِا
مِنْ كُلِّ مَا يَشْكُو مِنْ الَّلأْواءِ

12. And victory has come to him from a God who bestows favor,
Who always decides what is best for him.

١٢. وَأَتاهُ نَصْرٌ مِنْ إلهٍ مُنْعِمٍ
يَقْضِي لَهُ أَبَداً بِخَيْرِ قَضاءِ

13. You have exhausted their trickery and ended their deception
Without fatigue or exhaustion.

١٣. أَعْيَيْتَ حيلَتَهُمْ وَفُتَّ مَدَاهُمُ
مِنْ غَيْرِ إِتْعابٍ وَلا إِعْيَاءِ

14. Your swords scattered their palms in the open space
As if they were pebbles in the courtyard.

١٤. نَثَرَتْ سُيُوفُكَ بِالْفَضاءِ أَكُفَّهُمْ
فَكَأَنَّهُمْ فِيهِ حَصَى الْبَطْحاءِ

15. And you turned your horses snatching their souls
Without delay or tardiness.

١٥. وَعطَفْتَ خَيْلَكَ خاطِفاً أَرْوَاحَهُمْ
مِنْ غَيْرِ إمْهَالٍ وَلا إِبْطاءِ

16. You are the greatest in the times, and to you
The necks of the honorable nobles have bowed.

١٦. أَنْتَ الْمُعَظَّمُ فِي الزَّمانِ وَمَنْ لَهُ
ذَلَّتْ رِقابُ السَّادَةِ الْعُظَماءِ

17. The emirate refused to marry anyone but him
After being adamantly proposed to.

١٧. أَبَتِ الإمارَةُ أَنْ تَزَوَّجَ غَيْرَهُ
مِنْ بَعْدِ ما خُطِبَتْ أَشَدَّ إِباءِ

18. And praise disobeyed, it does not give obedience
Except to him, in infatuation and adoration.

١٨. وَعَصَى الْمَدِيحُ فَلَيْسَ يُعْطي طَاعَةً
إلاَّ لَهُ فِي سُؤْدَدٍ وثَنَاءِ

19. He plays with the courage of brave men,
Playing like an entertainer who has won passions.

١٩. يَلْهُو بِأَبْطالِ الرُجِّالِ شَجاعَةً
لَهْوَ الْمُلاعِبِ فازَ بِالأهَوْاءِ

20. A king who surpassed kings with his might
And his acceptance from the master of advisers.

٢٠. مَلِكٌ أَبَرَّ عَلَى الْمُلُوكِ بِبَأْسِهِ
وَقَبُولِهِ مِنْ سَيِّدِ النُّصَحاءِ

21. Muhammad bin Yahya revived a state
With sound determination and correct opinion.

٢١. أَحيا مُحَمَّدٌ بْنُ يَحْيى دَوْلةً
بِصَحِيحِ عَزْمٍ صائِبِ الأراءِ

22. The adornment of writing and the son of one whose
Writers of caliphs have bowed to.

٢٢. زَيْنُ الكِتابَةِ وَابْنُ مَنْ ذَلَّتْ لَهُ
وَعَلَيْهِ قِدْماً كِتْبَةُ الْخُلَفاءِ

23. After the enemies thought that he
Would be defeated by whoever opposed him.

٢٣. مِنْ بَعْدِ ما ظَنَّ الأَعادِي أَنَّهُ
سَيَكُونُ مَنْ نَاوَاهُ ذا اسْتِعلاءِ

24. When Islam was afflicted with a deadly disease
That would not have been cured without a remedy.

٢٤. إذْ ساوَرَ الإسْلامَ سُقْمٌ قاتِلٌ
لَوْ لَمْ يُدارِكْ سُقْمَهُ بِشِفاءِ

25. So he threw them with the arrows of his opinion
That are guided without a guide, to the intestines.

٢٥. فَرَماهُمُ مِنْ رَأْيِهِ بِنَوافِذٍ
تُهْدَى بِلا هادٍ إلَى الأَحْشاءِ

26. And he saw the ropes of his opinion as partners for them,
So they plunged into its abyss like a lost camel.

٢٦. وَرَأَى حَبَالَى رَأْيِهِ شَرَكاً لَهُمْ
فَهُوَوْا لَحْمئَتِهِ هُوىَّ دِلاءِ

27. In every important matter the view of an experienced one
Is hoped for, whose sword is decisive in curing this disease.

٢٧. في كارَ يُرْجَى عَيْنُ رَأْى مُجَرِّبٍ
مَاضِي الْحُسامِ لِحَسْمِ هَذَا الدَّاءِ

28. Ask with the prince and his sword whoever desires him
Or provokes him in the intense heat of battle.

٢٨. سَلْ بِالأمِيرِ وَسَيْفِهِ مَنْ رَامَهُ
أَوْ هاجَهُ فِي حَوْمَةِ الْيجَاءِ

29. His growling, blood dripping claws - whenever
Misfortunes from the blood of enemies arise.

٢٩. ضِرْغامُهُ دَامي الأظَافِرِ كُلَّمَا
عَرَتِ النَّوائِبُ مِن دَمِ الأَعْدَاءِ

30. So it is as if on the day of battle, he is
A shining full moon in the fortunate rising of the sky.

٣٠. فَكَأَنَّهُ فِي سَرْجِهِ يَوْمَ الْوغَا
بَدْرٌ تَلأْلأَ فِي سُعُودِ سَمَاءِ

31. And it is as if his leaders around him
Are planets, like the constellation Gemini.

٣١. وكَأَنَّما قُوَّادُهُ مِنْ حَوْلِهِ
مُسْتَلِئْمِيَن كَواكِبَ الْجَوْزاءِ

32. Dressed in the gown of patience, underneath which
Lies a heart like a silent rock.

٣٢. مُتَلَبِّسٌ جِلْبَابَ صَبْرٍ تَحْتَهُ
قَلْبٌ كَمِثْلِ الصَّخْرَةِ الصَّمّاءِ

33. His fear dispersed the enemies, so it is as if they are
The ostrich flock in the barren plain.

٣٣. شَرَدَ الأَعادِي خَوْفُهُ فَكَأَنَّهُمْ
خَرِقُ النَّعامِ بِقَفْرَةٍ بَيْدَاءِ

34. Or a flock of wild cats damaged by the echo
So they fell thirsty into the plains.

٣٤. أَوْ كُدْرُ سِرْبِ قَطاً أَضَرَّ بِها الصَّدى
فَتَساقَطَتْ عَطَشاً إلَى الأَحْشاءِ

35. The men attacked them, so they surrendered
To captivity and humiliation, acting like women.

٣٥. عَطَفَ الرِّجالُ إلَيْهِمْ فَتَعَطَّفُوا
لِلأْسْرِ وَالإِذْلالِ فِعْلَ نِساءِ

36. And the prince came with might and awe,
Strutting between wealth and singing.

٣٦. وَأَتَى الأَمِيرُ بِعِزَّةٍ وَمَهابَةٍ
يَخْتالُ بَيْنَ غِنىً وَبَيْنَ غنَاءِ

37. Baghdad prospered with him after its gloom,
And wore from him clothes of comfort.

٣٧. خَصِبَتْ بِهِ بُغْدادُ بَعْدَ جُدُوبِها
وَتَلَبَّسَتْ مِنْهُ ثِيابَ رَخاءِ

38. This was during the days of Bajkam - how much
Sincerity, wisdom and excellent testing he has!

٣٨. هذا وَفِي أَيَّامِ بَجْكَمَ كَمْ لَهُ
مِنْ صِدْقِ عارِفَةٍ وَحُسْنِ بَلاءِ

39. The hands of others darken in his war,
So he whitens them with shackles he places on them.

٣٩. تَسْوَدُّ أَيْدي غَيْرِهِ فِي حَرْبِهِ
فَيُضِيئُها قَيدٍ لَهُ بَيْضاءِ

40. The banners of your might on the day of your war were raised up
And hung with the stars in the sky, due to their height.

٤٠. أَطْنابُ بَأْسِكَ يَوْمَ حَرْبِكَ عُلِّقَتْ
لِعُلُوِّها بِكَواكِبِ الْعَوَّاءِ

41. You have excelled in nobility over the children of the Prophet and his in-laws,
In the merit of their status, O people of purity.

٤١. فَضَلَتْ كَفَضْلِ بَنِي النَّبِيِّ وصَهْرِهِ
فِي نُبْلِ قَدْرِهِمُ بَنِي الطَّلقَاءِ

42. You ascended the steps of glory, rising
Above the grandees and nobles.

٤٢. فَرَقِيتَ فِي دَرَجَ الْمَعالِي صاعِداً
تَعْلُو عَلَى الْعظُمَاءِ وَالْكُبَرَاءِ
