يحيى بن نوفل

وجئت على قصواء تنقل سوءة

You came on slender she-camels traveling swiftly,

إذا كلمته ذات دل لحاجة فهم

Roses are red

بل السراويل من خوف ومن وهل

He wet his pants in fear and panic

دعونا الله ذا النعماء لما

We called on Allah, the Gracious, when

لما سألت الناس أين المكرمه

When I asked the people where is the honored one

تقول هشيمة فيما تقول

Hashima says in her saying,

أخالد لا جزاك الله خيرا

Oh Khālid, may God not reward you well

لما رأيت الدهر قد

When I saw fate had

فأما بلال فإن الجذا

As for Bilal, truly hardship

عصا حكم في الدار أول داخل

The ruler's staff is foremost in the house to the newcomer

أبلال إني رابني من شأنكم

Alas! tales of your affairs have saddened me,

أترى أنت يابن عمران أجدا

Do you see, O son of Imran, how ignorant they were?

إذا ذات دل كلمته لحاجة

When a woman with an ulterior motive speaks to him

أقول لمن يسائل عن بلال

I say to those who ask about Bilal

إن يك عمرو فصيح اللسان

If Amr is eloquent of tongue

محمد يا حكم المسلمين

O Muhammad, judge of Muslims,

أعريان مايدري امرؤ سيل عنكم

I know not, O men, why you are called

أشبهت أمك يا بلال لأنها

You resembled your mother, O Bilal, for she

لكل زمان الفتى قد لبس

بكى الخز من إبطي سعيد بن راشد

فما تسعون تحفزها ثلاث

وغدت بجيلة نحو خالد تبتغي

فتى كان يعمل إصبعيه

وأما بلال فبئس البلال

أقول غداة أتانا الخبير

كنت ضيفا ببرمنايا لعبد الله
