1. Oh Khālid, may God not reward you well,
And may the Emir be displeased with your mother!

2. You wished for glory among Qays and Qasr,
As if you were from the stables of Banū Jarīr,

3. Jarīr is from pure Yemeni stock,
Of noble lineage, a man of great prestige,

4. Yet you claimed to be from Yazīd’s line,
Though you have been crushed like chasing deer!

5. Your mother is a she-camel and your father a tomorrow,
Flies can hardly match up to mules!

6. You are like refuse amid rubble
That ends up with the wicked.

7. You are like an ostrich called a camel,
Aggrandizing itself whenever deemed a bird,

8. And if told: “Carry,” it would say
I am a bird bred among mountain cocks!

9. You were donkey dung with Al-Mughīrah
Pissing itself in fear of the lion’s roar!

10. Born of a cure-all and an old blind shaykh
Who, when stricken, cried: “Feed me!” then fouled his bed!
