1. When I saw fate had
Brought down its blows with force

2. And misfortunes followed one another against family and wealth
And time denied me the joy of youth

3. With concerns that have made me anxious
I made up my mind firmly

4. To stop this terrible anxiety
So I remembered that my brother of generosity and constancy

5. And the keeper of my secrets
Wherever I have sought the unlawful

6. Ibn Shibrimah the accomplished said:
"Injustice after truth is an oppressor"

7. A nose too proud to be led
Into wickedness by oppressions

8. A sword that, when spears were thrown
And the disputants flowing in multitudes

9. Does not bend to blame
If blamed in truth by a blamer

10. Awake in seeking the sublime
While others from that are sleeping

11. And very clement when the tribes'
Tents are crowded with thronging men

12. Of the family of Hassaan whom
They are the pillars and the supports

13. The protectors when an inviolable is
Filled if they protect it while it is imperiled

14. Until pledges are redeemed
While honor remains unblemished

15. They accept no baseness, and no
Slanderer slanders them with treason

16. They, though the noses of some folk
Be vexed at them, are soft-hearted

17. The people of bounty, when bearing it
Weighs heavy with expenditures

18. And the sweet drinking-place which
The thirsty throng drains to the last

19. They are the shelter, the deciders
When raiders clash in the charge

20. They are the white swords, the stirring
Lances, the shining Indian blades

21. Those noble deeds and influences
When nobilities are reckoned

22. They want no money or wealth
Of religion and the world's dirhams
