- أفيقي أداة الظلم والشر والعمىAwake, O instrument of oppression, evil, and blindness!

- بدت تختال في حُلل الجمالِShe appeared, walking proudly in robes of beauty,
- بليت بحبِّ بين جنبيَّ مشتعلI am afflicted with a love blazing between my sides.
- بنت حجرات أرى من عجبDaughter of Hujurat, I find it wondrous
- ترفّق يا فؤاد فلا ذمامBe gentle, O heart, for there is no bond of honor,
- تسير الحياة بأصحابهاLife moves on with its companions,
- تعزّى فؤادي ما على الدهر معتباTake solace, my heart; time is not to be reproached,
- تهنا يا سعيد وعش سعيداEnjoy yourself, O Saeed, and live happily.
- خبّريني واسمعي مني اليقينTell me, and hear the truth from me.
- دعيني أجتلي في كل وقتLet me behold you at every moment—
- روحي فداك وإن مُنحتُ صدوداًMy soul I sacrifice for you, though I am resisted
- سأرجو ولو أن الرجاءَ عقيمI shall hope even if hope is barren.
- عزّ التأسّي وفاض الدمع هتاناConsolation has grown scarce, and tears have poured in torrents.
- للحب دين وللأشواق باقيناLove has a claim on us; longing has what remains of us,
- للعبقري الفذَّ والخل الوفي ومنFor the peerless genius, the faithful friend—and the one
- لله من يوم بليت بصاحبGod, what a day it was when I was afflicted with a fellow,
- ما حسن يوسف إلا منك مقتبسThe beauty of Joseph comes solely from you
- مقيم بمرج ليس لي من أحبّةI dwell in a meadow, with no loved ones.
- هدأ الليل فجاراه السكونNight grew calm, and stillness followed suit.
- هذا الربيع بنور الحسن وافاناThis spring has come to us with the light of beauty,
- وحاسد غاظه فضلي فأرغمهAnd an envious man, angered by my merit, was compelled
- وحق الهوى لو نلت من فيك رشفةAnd by love's sanctity, if I gained a sip from your mouth,
- وخير الحوت ما يدعى بياحاًAnd the finest fish is that called biyah.
- وما انتفاعي بنور الصبح أرقبهAnd what use to me is the light of dawn I await,
- يا درّة الكون التي من حسنهاO pearl of the universe, whose beauty
- يا طائر الشعر القريرO tranquil bird of poetry,
- يا قلب لا يجديك مني التعللO heart, consolation from me will do you no good.
- يا قلب هل لك بعد اليوم سلوانO heart, is there solace for you after today?
- يا ليتني تحت القميص غلالةIf only I were a gauzy undergarment beneath the shirt,
- يقولون الأمور إلى انتهاءThey say all things come to an end,
