وما يجدي الفتى أدب وعلم

إذا ما حظّه أمسى عقيما

إذا ما حظّه أمسى عقيما

And refinement and knowledge avail a young man nothing

Of no use is a young man's knowledge and learning,

if his fortune has become barren.

If destiny leaves him with barrenness burning.
