- أحزان مصرWe left you, O Egypt, amid the frost,
- أريد الحياةAnd your eyes came into view as a sorrowful light
- العمر يومLife is a day we shall spend together.
- إنسان بلا إنسانO sea, I have come to you, bewildered at heart.
- أين أيامك؟The waves will erase my feet,
- خطيئةI erased your love from the years of my life,
- دعيني أحبكLet me resist my longing for you,
- سلوان لا تحزنيSalwan, do not grieve if my allotted time betrays me.
- سيبقى نشيديAnd I still glimpse something far away,
- عشقناك يا مصرWe carried you, O Egypt, within the folds of our hearts,
- في رحاب الحبI made you a Kaaba; from the earth come
- كأن العمر ماكانYou offered your life to dreams as a sacrifice.
- كان حلماAnd you weep for a love ... that left you one day,
- لأن الشوق معصيتيDo not mention yesterday; I have lived concealing it.
- لأني أحبكCome, let me love you before parting
- لست مثل الناسNot all people, my love,
- نحن والزمانIn your eyes I cast my hopes
- وتهدأ الأحزانIf life grows too narrow for my sorrows,
- وما زال عطركAnd even if you have become a night of gloomy shadows,
- ونشقى بالأملLonging carries me back to you, a child,
- ويخدعنا الزمنWe traveled with Time for a few nights,
- ويخدعنا الزمن!We journeyed with Time through several nights,
