- أبشر فقد سفر الثرى عن بشرهRejoice, for the earth has unveiled its smiling face.
- أرى الباقلاء الباقل اللون لابساI see the broad bean, verdant in hue, clad
- أشهد الأقحوان أن جناهThe chrysanthemum attested that its bloom
- أشهد الخيري أن الخير فيThe wallflower attested that good lies in
- أشهد النرجس أشهاد محقThe narcissus bore witness, as one speaking truth,
- اصفر الخيري يشهدThe yellow wallflower bears witness
- أما البنفسج فهو يشهد أنهAs for the violet, it bears witness that it is
- انظر إلى النهر واعجبLook at the river and marvel
- إنما الورد في ذرى شجراتهThe rose atop its trees is but
- أو غوال في لآلOr fragrant perfumes among pearls,
- بكت السماء فأضحكت سن الثرىThe sky wept and made the earth’s teeth smile,
- حمام بلحظك قد حم ليDeath by your glance has been decreed for me,
- رياض يحييها الحيا بانسكابهGardens revived by the life-giving rain as it pours down,
- فالأرض في بردة من يانع الزهرSo the earth wears a mantle of blooming flowers,
- كأن نور الكتان حين بداThe flax blossom, when it appeared, seemed—
- نهار خيريك في ليلهKhayrik’s daytime is in his night.
- وجلنار تبدىAnd a pomegranate blossom appeared,
- وخرم حلو الحلىA verdant garden, lovely in its finery,
- وروض أريض لم يزل يغتذي بماAnd a lush garden, ever nourished by what
- وروضة رضيت عنAnd a garden, pleased with
- وسوسن يتهادىAnd an iris, gently swaying,
- وقهوة لا يجيدها مبصرA wine no sighted man can do justice to,
- وكأس لها كيس على اللب والعقلAnd a cup whose cunning prevails over intellect and reason—
- يا من تأزر بالمكارم وارتدىO you who girded yourself with noble virtues and robed yourself
- يا من يذم خلائق النمامO you who disparage the nammām’s qualities
