O you who girded yourself with noble virtues and robed yourself

in glory and lofty, surpassing merit,

    look at spring’s cheek, set

in the face of this lovely festival.

A rose took the lead, though it came late, and became

in beauty and beneficence the foremost forerunner.

It came to you wrapped in the robe of its modesty,

blushing, for its rain was the last to arrive.
