- أترى متى آتيك ووجهك أنظرI wonder, when shall I come to you and behold your face?
- أشذور تبر مع طروس عاجAre these flecks of gold alongside ivory pages,
- بحر الفصاحة والمقال الفلسفيSea of eloquence and philosophical discourse,
- جعلتك نصرتي في كل شدةI made you my support in every hardship,
- رعاك الله ما هذي المعانيMay God guard you! What are these thoughts
- رعاك الله من دوح ظليلِMay God keep you, O spreading tree of deep shade,
- ريح الصبا ان جزت بالاحياءO east wind, if you pass by the settlements,
- سلام يعم الكون من عرفه الاعطرA greeting pervades the universe with its sweetest fragrance;
- عيد سعيد عمكم بالخيرA happy feast has enfolded you in goodness;
- فرد الأنام وواحد الاوقاتPeerless among humankind, unmatched through the ages,
- قلبي يذوب الى المنازل والحماMy heart melts with longing for the dwellings and the protected grounds.
- لحاك الله في بلوى فعالكMay God curse you for the affliction your deeds bring!
- لقد زاد الجوى صوتُ القماريThe gambler's voice grew loud,
- لقد وافت الينا من حماكمIndeed, there has come to us from your domain
- ما بين هاتيك البلاقعWhat lies amid those barren wastes—
- من منزل باهي الجمال مزخرفFrom an ornate house of resplendent beauty,
- ولقد حننت لهُ حنين الإلف مذIndeed, I have yearned for it with a lover's yearning, ever since
- يا سائلي عن حال مصر انهاO you who ask me of Egypt's state: she is
- يا فريدا علا على كل ندO peerless one who has risen above every rival
- يا لها روضة تحاكي الفرادسOh, what a garden, mirroring paradises!
- يقولون إن البحر ساءت مصائبهThey say that the sea's calamities are grievous,
