Sol 6.1

  1. رعاكَ الله ما هذي المعاني

    اللواتي تضمَّنت غرر البيانِ

    May God guard you! What are these thoughts

    that hold the choicest gems of eloquence?

  2. لقد احكمتها نظماً ونثراً

    كنظيم الدرِّ بين البهرمانِ

    You have indeed perfected them in verse and prose,

    like strung pearls among safflower blossoms.

  3. سبائك عسجدٍ ام سلكُ درّ

    أُنيط على الصدور من الجمانِ

    Are they ingots of gold, or a strand of pearls

    hung upon the breast, fashioned of pearl beads?

  4. فكم لكُم علي بذاك فضلٌ

    وكم فيهِ رقعتم خفض شاني

    So how great is your kindness to me in this,

    and how often through it you have mended my lowly standing!

  5. لقد اكثرتُم الافضال حتى

    غدا من شكرها يعيا لساني

    You have indeed lavished favors so abundantly that

    my tongue now falters in giving thanks for them.

  6. وقد جُدتم بلا شحٍّ علينا

    بما لم يحظَ ادناه بناني

    And you have given to us without stint

    what my fingers had never gained even the least of.

  7. وقد أوقرتُم ظهري بحملٍ

    غدا عن حمله الريبال عاني

    And you have laden my back with a burden

    that leaves even the lion subdued beneath its weight.

  8. فاشكر فضلكم عنهُ وأُثني

    جزيل عناكُم في ذي المعاني

    So I thank you for your kindness in this, and praise

    your great efforts over these thoughts.

  9. لقد حزتم خلالاً لم يجزها

    ولا من قد حوى قصب الرهان

    Indeed, you have gained virtues none has surpassed,

    not even one who has claimed the race's prize-reeds.

  10. وقد فزتم بمجدٍ واعتلاءٍ

    وفضلٍ فاق متن النيرانِ

    And you have won glory and eminence,

    and excellence surpassing the heights of the sun and moon.

  11. قدم واسلم بعون الله وابقى

    مدى الأيَّام مع طول الزمانِ

    Advance, and be safe with God's aid, and endure

    through all the days and the long span of time.
