O east wind, if you pass by the settlements,

Greet the hills and the landmarks of al-Shahba.

Convey to our homelands blessings from us,

Enfolded in dazzling beams of light.

Abode of safety, honor, and happiness,

Abode of contentment, peace, and care.

An abode that tongues fall short of describing,

What shall I say when I describe her qualities,

Or of her fruits and the goodness of her produce,

And her delicious fare and savory broth?

Or the beauty of the palaces’ ornament, and all they hold

Of lofty dwellings and splendid architecture?

Or of splendid crafts and merchandise,

Coming and going from the far reaches of the world?

Have surpassed the charms of every other region?

And she became unrivaled in her age and time,

Praised by those near and far.

    But—alas!—she did not remain in

    That happiness, glory, and ease.

In every region and far-off land.

O Lord, enable me to return to her land.

So that we may soon return to our homelands,

Through the intercession of the maiden, your virgin mother.
