Are these flecks of gold alongside ivory pages,

Or a string of pearls in a brocade robe,

Or are these necklaces of gems hung upon

    White throats and sloping neck-veins,

Or a garden whose flowers have blossomed,

So they resembled stars in deep darkness,

Or are these meanings, arranged and refined,

Until they became like jewels in a crown?

O learned scholar, through whom there has been brought forth for us

On his pages, literature's finest fruit.

Be gracious, and do not cut yourself off [unclear word]

From me, for I have never ceased to hope in you.

And lavish more of this generosity upon us, for it

Clothes minds in its blazing light.

    نأتيكَ افواجاً على أفواجِ

    May you ever be the theme of magnanimity and generosity;

We come to you in throngs upon throngs.

Rather, may you never cease rising through all time,

Above the Pleiades, in the heights of the celestial towers.

So remain safe, and continue enjoying well-being

And joy from every good thing, safe and sound.
