I see strife boiling in its cauldrons
أفاطم قد طال التدل والمطل
Afáṭim, your neglect has been prolonged,
ولا يكونن مال الله مأكلة
And let not God's wealth be food
اشرب شرابك وانعم غير محسود
Drink your wine and enjoy, envied by none
ألؤم بن لؤم ما عدا بك حاسرا
The hopes of a hopeless man, none but you can revive
أنت امرؤ إما ائتمنتك خاليا
You are a man whom I entrusted when alone
أبلغ أمير المؤمنين رسالة
Convey to the Prince of the Faithful a message
فأخلف وأتلف إِنما المال عارة
I left it all behind, and squandered every dime
رأيتك تقصي من يودك قلبه
I saw you spurn one whose heart adores you
اصبر يزيد فقد فارقت ذا ثقة
Have patience, Yazid, for you have lost one of great trust
لما تمكن دنياهم أطاعهم
When their worldly life empowered them
أقتيب قد قلنا غداة أتيتنا
The morning you came to us, my friend,
يا ابن الزبير أمير المؤمنين ألم
O son of Zubayr, commander of the faithful, have you not
أرب من تغتشه لك ناصح
Four who wish you well and are sincere advisors,
لقد ضاعت رعيتكم لديكم
Your people have strayed from you
متى ما أقل يوما لصاحب حاجة
Whenever I say to someone in need, "Yes,
الله أعطاك التي لا فوقها
God has given you that which has no equal
إذا ما تريني اليوم مزجى ظعينتي
If you see me today deluded and love-sick,
أضحت سليمى بعد طول عتاب
After prolonged estrangement and the passing of youth's vigor,
أفي جرجرايا أنت كفنا بن فرزنٍ
ألا أبلغ أبا حسن عليا
أراك إذا أجرت على أمير
أقلي علي اللوم يابنة مالك
لعمرك ما المعروف غير أهله
آلا انتسأت بالود عنك وأدبرت
كحية الماء لا تنحاش عن أحد
أين تضرب بنا لعداة تجدنا
أطفأ عني نار كلبين ألبا
سأنصح قيسا قيس عيلان إنني
يا دار ليلى بأبلي فذي حسم
ما زلت أرجو أبا حفص وسيرته
قومي أصحيني فما صيغ الفتى حجرا
عمدت بمدحتي عثمان إني
يا ليتني حين يممت القلوص له
