1. You have made songs your obsession
And old age has not weaned you from that

2. While youth was unkind
And the emptiness of your songs lasted briefly

3. I wept for the clan when they left you
For you were among them and their homeland

4. I say to Uthman do not blame me
Wake up from some of your negligence

5. A stranger recalled his brothers
So they stirred in him a destroying sickness

6. And your land disgusted me that I
Saw in it an owner who passed away

7. So when I feared his claws
I escaped and pledged to them my property

8. A peasant staying in the house of disgrace
So it was easy for me to perish there

9. And I decided to go to one with a bright complexion
Who rose to the peak of glory and movement

10. I came to him the whole day
Wearing black, destructive attire

11. With blood that the swords had gathered
And destroyed the highground for it completely

12. So when I leaned towards his door
I saw our Caliph there

13. I said spare me Abu Khaled
Or else make me a destroyed man

14. He frowned at us, then I said "Show kindness
To him, O pure and protected one."

15. So a merciful womb inclined towards us
And lineage did not hinder the intertwined one

16. How much distress you relieved me of
And replacement at your doors

17. And behind you were threats
Portending evil from you

18. O son of Ziyad, and you were, they claimed
An ascetic worshipper

19. I have protection from Yazid
And I seek refuge in your Islam

20. From wronging today or obeying
Through me the sinful killer

21. And if not for their weighty intercession
And the Caliph's contract I would not have come to you

22. For me has been written a paper guaranteeing safety
To you, fearing your sons

23. So do not belittle it, for it has been written
For me, fearing your snakes

24. I love your pleasure even if you do not support me
with it, and establish your authority

25. And I brought my excuse over it with witnesses
Whether excusing or neglecting

26. And the people witnessed in front of the Imam
That I am an enemy of your enemies

27. So I said spare me Abu Khaled
Or else make me a destroyed man
