جلبنا الخيل من أجأ وسلمى

We brought the horses from Ajaa and Salma

فسرنا إليهم كافة في رحالهم

We traveled all together on our journeys

رميناك أيام الفجار فلم تزل

We stoned you in the days of wickedness, yet you remained

كذبت لقد أقمت بها ذليلا

You lied, you have indeed lived in it disgraced,

لقد ذاق حسان الذي هو أهله

Hassan, who deserved it, truly tasted

خلف السلام على امرئ ودعته

Peace followed a friend I bid farewell,

إنهم عند ربهم في جنات

They will be in the presence of their Lord in the Gardens of delight. There they will partake of liquid nectar and crystal-clear rivulets.

أتاني الذي لا يقدر الناس قدره

The one whom people cannot appreciate his worth

رحم الله نافع بن بديل

May God have mercy on Nafe' ibn Budayl

عند الصباح يحمد القوم السرى

In the morning the people praise the journey

لو لم تكن فيه آيات مبينة

If there were not in it clear verses,

لكنني أسأل الرحمن مغفرة

But I ask the Merciful for forgiveness

عدمت بنيتي إن لم تروها

If you do not see my structure, I do not exist

بدا لي أني لست مدرك ما مضى

It seems to me that I cannot grasp what has passed

يا قيس أنتم شرار قومكم

O Qais, you are the worst of your tribe

لعمري لقد حكت رحى الحرب بعدما

By my life, the mill of war ground on after

شهدت بإذن الله أن محمدا

I bear witness with God's permission that Muhammad

جلبنا الخيل من أجأ وفرع

We brought the horses from the rugged valleys

إذا أديتني وحملت رحلي

When you lead me and carry my belongings

فلم أر كالإسلام عزا لأمة

I saw no glory like Islam for a nation,

يا رسول المليك إن لساني

تحمله الناقة الأدماء معتجرا

تذكر بعدما شطت نجودا

لما رأيت بني عوف وإخوتهم

أشاقتك ليلى في الخليط المجانب

بكت عيني وحق لها بكاها

وعدنا أبا سفيان بدرا فلم نجد

إني تفرست فيك الخير أعرفه

وفينا رسول الله يتلو كتابه

شهدت بأن وعد الله حق
