هل تذكرون غداة شرك وأنتم

جزى الله خيرا والجزاء بكفه

تشبهت بالأعراب أهل التعجرف
You have imitated the arrogant Bedouins
وشاهد ما لا رب ما فساسه سياسة
Witness unparalleled, untouched by corrupt politics
ترحل فما بغداد دار إقامة
Depart, for Baghdad is no place for rest
ما ضرني حسد اللئام ولم يزل
The envy of the ignoble did not harm me, though
تبدي لك العين ما في نفس صاحبها
The eye reveals to you what is in its owner's soul
تجرمت لي في غير جرم علمته
I am blamed for no crime I committed
رعملك إن الطائر الواقع الذي
Your tender hands, a wounded bird
قالت مفداة لما أن رأت
Mefda said, when she saw my distress
ألا أيها الباكي أخاه وإنما
O you who cry for your brother, yet
لا شيء يدفع حق خصم شاغب
Nothing deters the rights of a contentious opponent
وقد كان فيض الدمع يبدي سريرتي

حبك يا ذات الأنيف الأكشم
I love you, O nobly featured one,
وغداة بطن بلاد كان بيوتكم
In the morning, while the countrysides of your homes
ولا خير فيه غير أن جياده
No good in him but his steeds are marked
ويرفع المال أقواما وإن خملوا
Wealth raises some men though they be vile,
أأترك إن قلت دراهم خالد زيارته

وجموع أسعد اذ تقض رؤوسهم

أضنوا بما قدمت شيبان وائل

فأن تصبح الأيام شيبن مفرقي
ولا متقلب الأمواج يبقي
فأنى امرؤ من عصبة خندفية
بني منقذ لا آمن الله خوفكم
بكل طويل السيف ذي خيزرانة
لمستمطر بالرمل في بيت حرة
رأينا كما يا ابني ربيعة خرتما
تبحثتم سخطي فغير بحثكم
فيهن جائلة الوشاح كأنها
ما في السوية أن تجر عليهم
