1. None but Allah be praised who gave Ka'b,
The clan of many horsemen, and steeds;

2. Among them no noble like Nasr
From whom the ways of heroes recoil.

3. The vultures tear them every day,
As my brother 'Azzah did the weaklings;

4. Not like ten of their number they are;
But peoples are destroyed for lack of sense.

5. So where are the horsemen of Salamah now?
Or Jadhimah and Harith, men of merit?

6. Where is 'Abbad of Khushan among them
When the ascent narrows at the pass?
