من مثل أحمد في الحقيقة أحمد

Ahmed is truly like Ahmed,

جعل الرقاد لكي يواصل موعدا

Roses are red, violets are blue

ومن حقكم شكرا آلائكم

You owe your parents thanks and praise

وماذا تبتغي الأيام منى

What more can the days want from me?

لك في سموات المحامد مقعد

You have a seat in the heavens of praise

أبعد شهابنا نلقى شهابا

After our shooting star, we find another

وافى فوافانا السرور الأكبر

The greatest joy has come upon us

هل أنت فرعون تمثيلا وتشبها

Are you a Pharaoh in likeness and resemblance,

أأنصف ممن طبعهم من مقابح

Is it fair of those whose nature is ugly

حمدت سجاياه المطلة بالبشر

I praise his qualities that show kindness to mankind

القول ما شهد الفعال بصدقه

Words are not verified by deeds

أصبحت بين الورى في الهم ذو أسف

I have become among people one with sorrow

هي الليالي فلا تغتر بالأمل

These are nights, so don't be fooled by hope,

ولقد نظمت الشعر شيمة معشر

I composed poetry, an attribute of my companions,

مكارمه تفوح بكل واد

Virtues exude from him in every valley

فكم أمسى بما ألقى حزينا

How sorrowful my nights have been with all I've faced,

تبسم الدهر عن حسن وإحسان

Time smiled at goodness and benevolence

لا نأمن الدهر إن الدهر خوان

We cannot trust time, for time is a betrayer

سلام كما حيتك عاطرة النشر

Greetings as fragrant as the spreading breeze

خفاجية قد صاغها الفكر مدحة

قدمت قدوم النيل يا زينة العصر

راح من الجود فيك الله أثبتها

ما لي وللأيام ويح صروفها

ضياء تجلى في سماء كماله

قلت إن القضيب يحكيك عطفا

سل الأفق بالزهر الكواكب حاليا

لحا الله كتابا بمنصورة الوالي

سلام كما حيتك عاطرة النشر

عسى تعرف العلياء ذنبي إلى الدهر
