1. We cannot trust time, for time is a betrayer
It gives, but time's gifts are deprivation

2. O you who tell me days are left
If you are in one year, time is awake

3. Have patience, for your world does not stay with anyone
Its clarity is murk, and its union is separation

4. So let not the world and its beauty delude you
For within its kindness to man are sorrows

5. Your world is like a shadow, do not rely on its blossoms
For its wind is, in truth, loss

6. O wise mind, think - in eternity there is no ambition
An era and times have passed as you see

7. The sword of death brandished over the living
It assaults, and from its havoc eyelids pour

8. Where are the prophets, the honored messengers, and those
Who yearned and moaned for God

9. Did death honor the God-fearing with obedience?
Or did any king escape from it and power?

10. O time, wait, for how many bitter drinks you have given
The same to you are those faithful and those who betrayed

11. Those nights, if they were good, they prove
The nature of sorrow in truth

12. If our worldly life persisted, the lamps of perfection and knights
Would not have left us

13. Each day you see the people of virtue
Decreasing in number and the ignorant prevailing

14. He who strove in his worldly life with religion truly
And strived has died

15. The ascetic worker, guided in his way
Did not rise above the prophets in arrogance

16. And the tireless Abraham whom praise
Adorned his character and sincerity

17. Al-Junayd related stations in them for him
Is remembrance, enlightening people, and faith

18. Funerals enlarged among the Muslims, and it is as though
Tears are a necklace from them
